Quote "Obviously "Intel doesn't preselect better semiconductor dies for their energy-efficient models, but simply lowers the clock speeds, as simple as that". Don't be fooled by the "65W" TDP! The same conclusion applies to the following processors: - Core i3-2100, 3.1GHz, 65W, $117 - Core i3-2100T, 2.5GHz, 35W, $127 There is almost zero difference of power consumption at idle and video playback! You may want to go for Core i3-2100 for better performance/equally good low power and save your money" http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=20089847#post20
2100T turbo to 2.9G, u could try to fully load the CPU and saw the difference. no such magic to lower the frequency to save power 50%. in semiconductor, low power process flows are quite different from high performance flows. i3-2100T is more like a mobile process flows testing on a desktop design.
