Pros: Incredibly thin and light and super fast i7 (both boot times and
performance) Styling is nice, albeit a bit hard to open, due to the sharp
edge clam shell design.
Cons: Wireless!!! It's hard to believe that these aluminum bodied laptops
are failing so miserably. I was one of many early adopters of the Samsung
series 9 laptop that also had this bizarre wireless connectivity issue. My
theory is that the aluminum body is interfering with the wireless chipset.
That theory is backed up by a simple test. Three brands of USB wireless
adapters and a 6ft USB extension cable. With the adapter plugged directly
into the aluminum bodied laptop (both the Samsung Series 9 and this Asus
Zenbook) the wireless fluctuates wildly, fast for a few seconds, zero
connectivity the next few, etc. The next test is with the USB extension
cable and the adapter 5 ft away. Solid connectivity!! Of course I duplicate
and retest before making these claims. The USB adapter (two brands, one
wireless G [Atheros], one wireless N [Broadcom]) is used for the ability to
distance the antenna from the laptop body as well as to eliminate the
suggestion that the driver(s) is the issue.
