Something baffles me in a database published in a paper. I believe it is
wrong, but I wonder how those values were generated. If you are the author
and I contact you to ask you about sth that you know may be wrong, or you
might have made a mistake there, will you get annoyed?

我觉得最好的方法就是联系作者，大家一起讨论，找到正确的解释和答案。我觉得做研
究的过程，尤其是新的工作，最初的理解由于不够深入，偶尔有些错误是很正常的，怕
的是故意伪造或者选择性的发表数据结果。

我有一个活生生的例子。一个50年代的经典模型，到了70年的时候，有三个人
觉得它错了，写了篇文章指责那个模型。然后那个经典模型的作者们很愤怒的
写了篇文章，指出那三个人的文章中的问题。然后，经典模型依然是那个广泛
应用的经典模型。
今年夏天听一个讲座，那个老头说他们学会曾经在开会时调查大家对某个模型的
看法，投票结果是一半赞同，一半反对。
我觉得最好就是随它去，大浪淘沙，如果它错了，就被自然淘汰了。如果实在
躲不过去，比如它跟你的研究有着深切的关联，跟你的研究结果矛盾，就在自
己的文章中轻描淡写的描述一下自己的看法。

this is a database (a map) that I will be trying to use.
but in the region where I know the actual values, this map is entirely wrong
, by 4 orders of magnitude. Just curious how the authors obtained their
values. maybe they meant a different thing? I want to ask, but it might
irritate them.
