LD filed NIW 140 and get aprroved. However, we could not file 485 now
because of the 485 backlog. LD's H-1B is approaching 6 years (a little bit
more than 5 year), and he wants to change his job beacuse his current
company is planning to lay off people in May. My question is,
(1) Since NIW does not require employee sponsor, I assume he can ch

yes. as long as ur LD did not change area.

yes. apply h1b extension within 6 months of expiration, and normally
a 3-year extension.

As he is changing employer, he should apply extension for the expiring H1b
or apply a completely new H1b based on the new employer?
