Physical address is embedded into chips when
manufactured,each ethernet card is assigned a unique, fixed
address.If you can change it, it'll be a disaster for a Lan
if two addresses happened to be same.

Some old NIC's MAC can be changed, especially those from
taiwan. But modern NICs do not have that ability.
Please be advised that there is a bit in MAC indicating
whether it's a administratively MAC or globally unique one.
Furthermore, if you think about broadcast and multicast MAC
address, you won't be surprised at all.
Some load balancing or high availability solution such as
stonebeat does take advantage of manipulation of MAC address
to achieve those goals.
