Basic Setting:
Server
Windows 2000, DSL using Verizon service
Client--Mixed setting
Win 95,98,XP,2000
Problem:
One computer with Windows XP can not get access to internet
after power failure once upon a time. The setting of it, I
checked carefully, was exactly the same with another one wiht
Windows XP, which works good.
Diagnosis:
Ping to www.yahoo.com, no problem
TraceRT to www.yahoo.com, indicating routing no problem
Telnet to somewhere, failure. Error: Can not.... on port ##
Use IE, failure.

So what's your settings exactly? Any detail might help, since
someone here before manualy assigned the same ip
address to both pc, which is not good.

All the network setting except the IPs themselvs.

BTW, there is no problem with the LAN. Any suggestion? 3X!

Your IE might be corrupted.
Somehow could you manage to use connection wizard to reset up internet instead
of set up by your own.
(For xp, Control Panel->Network and Internet connecitons -> Set up or change
your Internet connection -> click button Setup.)
your network is ok as I believe.

could you please reinstall TCP/IP protocol?
I ever encountered the similar problem after I installed and uninstalled
Wingate. Then I could not get access to internet. The final solution is the
reinstallation of TCP/IP.
