借这地儿问个相关的问题哈：你们说的这些web hosting,是都要自己开发网页甚至数据库
的呢，还是必须按照他们提供的既定格式填写内容就行了，或者是二者兼可。
如果是后者，那么想换其它的web hosting是不是不可能？

I agree that $12/month for 2GB is not cheap. But you should also consider the
stability, speed, email account. So far the stability and speed of yahoo is
good for me and Yahoo has the best email system and interface. I agree that
you can find $6/month for 2GB. But according my understand the difference
between 6$ and 12$/month is not big. Other factors are more important than the
6$ difference per month.

Yeah, I agree with you that the stability and speed are very important issues.
And I also agree with you that $6 and $12 are not that much different.
I have no experience with yahoo. But the best thing that my host provides is
allowing me to ssh to the remote machine. With this capability, I can make
nearly full control of my site, plus run scripts (shell, perl, and etc).
Make a good choice of your hosting, I am sure nobody want to change his host
every year. Good luck.

SSH is provided to me (after I requested). Apache? I never used, no idea
about it.

domain. So far, I have never encountered any kind of difficulty with them.

even not to resellers. I 'll certainly think twice if the host provides SSH to
all virtual server clients.

Sure, it's risky, but we will get more freedom on our web pages. I'd really
like to upload my own scripts, don't want to be limited to use the provider's
script/style/tools.
And what is about to design the database tables by myself (or friends :),
instead of using the provider's one?
I have just checked some web hosting providers, it's much more expensive with
a SSH access than the one without SSH. lzhang is really lucky to get his SSH
by just one call. I don't think I will get the same luck tho

well, there is no critical informational stored in my website, since I don't
have customers :) Therefore, the SSH is a really good feature for me.

Having a database on the hosting site is important, so you and your
friends can work together on it without sitting infront of your machine
together.
as to the scripts, all providers give you ftp access. You can always prepare
your scripts on a local machine and upload it. So it is not a big deal for not
having a SSH connection. But, it surely is more convenient to vi files on a
remote machine and see the effects instantly.
If you really want the SSH, you can ring them up, and tell them you'll

Has anyone tried costco's webhosting plan? (e.g. from valueweb.com) I'm
considering that since it looks attractive to me (big storage and many

ago. (free 3 years webhosting) I am very satisfied. good service
even for free trials and they kept their promose so far.

FTP是不是只能一个文件一个文件上传啊？SSH就快很多吧，VI倒是没想要。谢谢lzhong的
建议了，试试看吧。
说到大家在不同的地方修改网页，其实twiki倒是一个不错的协议，不知道现在有没有甚
