I feel Netbeans are catching up with Eclipse.

At the end of the day, the one who attracts developers to develop
more plugins for it, will win. Very few switch from Eclipse to Netbeans,
RAD is Eclipse with commercial plugins and I wouldn't mind using
that with EJB projects. For now open source is taking the center stage,
no IDE can beat MyEclipse for overall values.

As an application developer, I prefer Eclipse over IntelliJ IDEA (I have
both). Mainly I like Eclipse can pool together errors/warnings in a simple

you work in companies doing java development, an descent IDE is a must have.
Otherwise, no project manager can get the project rolling down in the road.

yes, that's true, eclipse+svn is a handy way for a group of people working on
a same project. but it does comsume a huge amount of memory, my own old
computer nearly can't afford it.

I agree. With big project at work an IDE is the only choice (I use IDEA 5.1)
unless you are (1) crazy or (2) super smart.
But when you write some small programs for fun or testing any good editors
should be OK.

Also I don't like the way intellij cvs(or svn) plugin works,
it's a waste to connect to cvs/svn everytime you add a new file.

I checked some recent comments about IDE and Netbean 5.x does get a lot
of compliments. And I agree Eclipse does have to be serious with J2EE
development. VE and webtools are not really that great compared with
MyEclipse plugins.

finish coding, get latest code from sourcecontrol, run through all the tests,
check the source control again to see if there is new code available, commit
my change, waiting for cruisecontrol report(at the same time, write a test
to make my build fail without implementing the feature, then I can remember
where I'm at the next day)...
So I don't really care what other people checked in unless I see a merge
conflict.
