Java developer will tell you Java and .NET developer will tell you .NET.
Do a simple test yourself. Go to hotjob.com, moster.com or dice.com and search
for Java/J2EE and .NET/C#.
Also, look at the quality of the job - size of the employer...
For my experience, small or mid size companies use more .NET.
Most better/bigger software/application companies like/use Java, e.g. IBM,
Oracle, etc.
Some large financial firms use .NET, e.g. countrywide. There are other
financial firms use Java, e.g. Ameriq

this comparison is kind of unfair since the history of c# is much shorter than
java, give them another 5 years, the market will tell.

Good point. However, unless Microsoft changes its strategy toward the
operating system, no matter how great .NET is, it can only share the market
with Java/J2EE.
I used .NET on my side project. Be honest, I am so impressed about .NET and
especially visual studio. It makes things so much easy.
For more complex problem, Java/J2EE gives you more flexibilities and choices
though.

it's not that unfair. MS has already giant developer base and deployment base,
they are all likely to become .net
for a newbie in the market, he better claims(and does) that he knows both.
for a veteran, you can comfortably stay in your side for years.
due to their amazing similarity(wink), it really doesnt make much difference.
I know .net job looking for java guru, java project ported to .net, and
vice versa. though a developer normally don't cross sides, for pure spite.
for me, the blind fait
