Recently the Department of Homeland Security announced a new regulation
for all F1 students currently on Optional Practical Training (OPT) who a
re the beneficiary of a pending or approved application for an H1B work
visa. These students may now receive an extension to their work authoriz
ation and an extension of status to remain in the U.S. until the start o
f the H1B status. This automatic extension applies to all students on OP
T, not just STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)
