System Engineer Roles and Goals
1. Building a strong three-person team: Lead IC designer, system engineer
, and local sales and FAE for sponsored customers.
2. Defining new products
a. As a new product development owner and main driver both in technical
specs and business justification, proactively work with marketing, sales,
field engineers, and customers to find out new business opportunities.
b. Generate the preliminary product preview (3 pages: key features, Pin
out and description, application circuit, critical questions), and send it
to the fields for customers and field feedbacks.
c. Fully understand competitor products and list how to win the sockets
over competitors.
d. Visit key customers once a quarter (Mass market and Taiwan team).
e. Ask many “whys” to find out the system level benefits for every spec
or feature that the customers request.
f. Generate the electrical specification and negotiating with customers
and do the trade-off with lead IC designers between the die size, design
time and cost.
g. Find the lowest system cost solution and lowest cost IC.
3. Initiate and work with program manager for brainstorm, product review,
kick-off, validation, IC verification review
4. Provide the top level simulation items and participate in the top
level IC design review.
5. Develop the system engineering board and do the complete silicon
validation with apps engineers, and review with the team
6. Develop the design tool like Mathcad file for efficiency, component
selection, and loop compensator design with help of apps engineers.
7. Owner for Tier 1 customers for promotion, definition, support (
secondary support is available from apps), and solve the technical issues
for new product design-in, and design win activities, and sample schedule
and delivery to customers.
8. Work with the quality team, test team, apps, and IC design team for
finding the possible root cause and close the FA fro Tier 1 customers.
9. Create at least one new product idea per quarter, and track the
competitor’s new products. Take actions if they thereat the new product in
development.
10. Generate the customer training materials and provide the FAE and
customer trainings during the customer visit.
11. Publish at least one-two apps notes or design articles per year in
major journals like EE time, power managementdesignline.com….

prefer has US master or PhD degree with power electronics. Familar with DC/
DC converter such as Buck, Boost etc.

话说Fellow的比例。。。俺恰好做过这方面的调查。。。最近几年,以每年Fellow当选
人数和会员总数相比:
ACM 10万会员, 每年选50名Fellow。
IEEE 40万会员,每年选300个Fellow。
ASME 13万会员,每年选120名Fellow。
APS 5万会员,每年选250-300左右的Fellow。
you do the math。。。ACM,IEEE和ASME 的Fellow手册都写了不超过千分之1。实际执
行中ACM最难,万分之5。APS Fellow 比那几个貌似容易半个到1个数量级,千分之五到
百分之一。当然还是很难的。
APS Fellow得炸药奖的就很多,ACM/IEEE/ASME Fellow得炸药奖的寥寥,毕竟APS是干
基础的活,人影响力大。IEEE和ASME的,干好几个大工程项目也可以当选。

可能是因为周围都是挺established的人才拿到aps fellow弄得印象中难了。
