Chinese/English Bilingual Chemical Engineer
Description
Hoku Materials, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hoku Corporation (NASDAQ: HOKU)
, a diversified clean energy technologies company founded in 2001, is
seeking a motivated and talented full-time Bilingual (English/Chinese)
Chemical Engineer for the plant in Pocatello, Idaho. This position will be
responsible to aid in the company’s efforts to design and install processes
and facilities to safely produce polysilicon. In addition, candidate will
serve as a technical translator for existing personnel and management. The
successful candidate will join a growing but accomplished group dedicated to
moving the organization and the world forward with clean energy technology.
Job Responsibilities
Work closely with start-up team and plant operators to help coordinate start
up activities associated with all utility operations at a new site
including completion of all equipment acceptance checklists and integrity
testing.
Coordinate and Engineer capital improvement projects to improve efficiency
and decrease the cost of utilities.
Take individual responsibility to improve the safety program and be
responsible for the safety of yourself and coworkers.
Develop and maintain: Utilities SOPs and other record keeping systems
necessary to document or report compliance to local, state, and federal
regulations.
Provide English to/from Mandarin Chinese for both verbal interpretation and
written translation of technical documents.
Perform other duties/administrative tasks assigned by supervisory personnel.
Qualifications
Must have written and verbal mastery of Mandarin Chinese and English, and be
capable of intensive verbal/written English-Chinese translation
Candidate must be energetic and have potential to grow to be the
organization’s technical expert throughout the facility.
2-4 years experience in an engineering role, with knowledge of utility
systems, start-ups and operations. This individual should have a high degree
of technical experience dealing with the following utility systems:
Boilers
Cooling towers
Compressors
Condensate systems
Feed water systems
LP & HP process steam systems
Waste water systems
Strong analytical problem solving skills. Able to generate new and
innovative solutions to complex problems.
Ability to communicate, lead and facilitate efforts related to chemical
engineering projects within the facility.
Ability to interpret complex specifications and explain them in English and/
or Mandarin Chinese to other engineering staff from other disciplines and
non-engineering staff.

sound decisions can be made.
Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
Ability to successfully handle multiple problems and issues within a
challenging environment.
A flexible can-do attitude and ability to create solid working relationships
/partnerships across other groups and departments.
Self-motivated and possessing a positive attitude.
Flexible schedule allowing for regular over-time and weekend work
Proficiency in Windows and all MS Office applications
Commissioning / Start up experience is beneficial
BS/MS/PhD Degree from a US accredited institution or program in Chemical
Engineering or a related discipline.
Physical requirements include:
Ability to work in an office within a manufacturing environment with
exposure to loud noises, heavy machinery and equipment, dangerous chemicals,
electrical hazards, and hazardous situations.
As required by role, wear (without hindrance) personal protection equipment.
Flexible schedule allowing for regular over-time and weekend work
Proficiency in Windows and all MS Office applications
Commissioning / Start up experience is beneficial
BS/MS/PhD Degree from a US accredited institution or program in Chemical
Engineering or a related discipline.
