Minimally Invasive Device Engineer
We are seeking an exceptional, self-motivated individual to work with a
small team to construct, test and expand upon a novel minimally-invasive
device to reach far inside the lungs. Research will include: mechanical
analysis of current prototypes, industrial design for manufacturing, ease-of
-use, integration of diagnostic and therapeutic devices and pre-clinical
testing. A thorough understanding of mechanical design tools, material
testing techniques and user-centered design. Publication of results is also
an integral part of the position.
Key areas of research are broad, including:
• Design, development and experimental validation of mechanical
systems for interventional therapy
• Integration of novel and established tools for controlling and
validating accurate placement of interventional devices
• Investigation of clinical workflows and validation of novel guidance
solutions in collaboration with clinical partners
We require the following credentials for this position:
• MS or PhD Mechanical Engineering, or related fields
• Medical device R&D experience
• Familiarity with engineering materials, mechanics of materials,
experimental methods
• Demonstrated capability in the design, fabrication, and testing of
novel devices
• Expert use of Pro/Engineer, Solid Works or similar
In addition, the following skills and experience would be a plus:
• Miniaturized robotics, electronic control
• Sensing systems: Digital imaging, medical imaging (CT, Ultrasound, x
-ray), Tracking (Seeds/EM/Optical)
• Miniature actuation and therapy: grasping, balloons
• Programming experience in C#, C++, Matlab
• Industrial Design
• Polymer material selection
• Knowledge of the medical domain
• Methods and systems leading to FDA approval
