Change your status to F-1, F-2, or H4 is the easiest way if you are married.
Future F1->H1 should not be a big concern.
If you nail the next job as fast as you can, that should be also a good
outcome.
Even if your current employer does not withdraw the application after your
employment is terminated, it would not help your case. You are legally out
of status right after the day of being laid off.

dangerous to get enrolled in esl, my excuse is to apply for mba program so
