The sayings about non-cap H1b on this board are all true, BUT:
1, your status is decently maintained and the experience can be good for
your green card application if you want to pursue research-enhanced tracks;
2, Non-cap H1b, even part-time, allows "concurrent employment" by industry
which is also cap-exempt. Technically, if you can find a non-profit H1b, and
reduce the workload and pay to the minimum, say 5hr/week, you may still
have chance to keep hunting industrial opportunities.
All my best!
