Job Description
HP Labs is seeking a highly-qualified and self-motivated researcher for
thermal and mechanical topics in future computer systems. Specific
responsibilities include:
•Collaborate on 3D-stacked chip research project, clarifying thermal
challenges, modeling detailed device material characteristics, and providing
recommendations on key packaging and sensing decisions.
•Develop a research plan for a small form factor computing system,
with advanced sensing capabilities, that is aligned with the broader HP Labs
research plans as well as projected future Business Unit needs and market
demands.
•Inform and collaborate on future device packaging research
•Develop thermal, mechanical, and/or packaging solutions that lead to
valuable intellectual property and profitable HP products and services.
Education
•PhD or MS in Mechanical Engineering with a thermal sciences focus
Experience, Knowledge and Qualities
•Demonstrated ability to develop analytical and numerical models to
simulate heat or mass transfer and experience validating model(s) with
experimental data.
•Familiarity with electronics packaging and associated thermal
challenges.
•Current knowledge and strong practical experience with designing,
developing and evaluating fluidic systems.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to conduct
interdisciplinary work.
•An analytic ability and curiosity to research technical issues;
complemented by imagination, enthusiasm, questioning and experimentation to
generate creative/innovative solutions.
•A commitment to life-long learning and a demonstrated ability to
acquire new knowledge transparently as an implicit part of a project.
•Demonstrated ability to generate, frame and carry out leading edge
research.
•Fluency in English.
