Intel salary goes by grade levels. Level 3 starts with bachelor degree.
Level 5 starts with master degree. Level 7 starts with PhD degree.
Level 8 is a group manager. Level 10 is a department head. Level 11,
director or fab manager. Level 12, VP. CEO is grade level 13, the
highest. This is just regular grade level standard for engineers, more
or less related to your position. There is no grade level 4 but 3, 5-
13. Technicians goes under different sub-levels. Sometime grade levels
are base on the position and not your educational background. For
example, I had a colleague once, who doesn't have any college degree but
been with Intel for 13 years. He was a grade level 7 TME (Technical
Marketing Engineer).
Last time we hire a master degree RCG (recent college graduate) in
biomedical engineering field. He was hired for $72K. He was a hot
candidate with several years of internship and research experience. I
am not the hiring manger but I train him, so I am familiar with his
background. This was in Portland back in 2007. In Boston, where I stay
for 4 years, level 3 salary goes between $50-$60K. That was back in
2000. Just for your reference.
