Now that you have already submitted your 485, you are in AOS if you have no
other valid status. Once your J visa expires, you don't have to keep it or
any other visa.

如果没有身份gap是不是485不会被拒？最多RFE

不会，暑假刚刚带着孩子一起回的。回来的日期赶着H4到期前２个礼拜。回来后又申请
H4renew，收到信批了。

没问题的。孩子暑期单独回国，回来很顺利，只是护照上盖章H4变成了AOS了。

is exactly in now before J expires. After that, she is in AOS for sure.
I know that for green card applications, they have to do J waiver. Does that
waiver mean that they are no longer J after waiver?

Okay, I see. It's similar to that F visa holder applies for green card.
It's theoretically not compatible with F or J, but before F or J expires,
the F or J may be still in effect in practice, although risky.
F is even riskier than J, as F may not be renewed or the OPT may not be
granted, but J can be renewed.
