offer a: top university faculty position at instructor level, can be
promoted to assistant professor, etc, but not tenure track.
offer b: a mid-size company with promising future, senior research scientist
, pays almost double than offer a.

life is not only money
go with A, you can easily look for industry job after some years, but not
vice versa

Really? I heard that it is easier to transfer from industry to academia but

position you spend all your time teaching college kids. They might have a
promising future, but not you.

哈佛大学有很多instructor搞科研的。
不教书。依稀印象中。
