The Health Care Economics - Medical Informatics team of UnitedHealth Group
is now looking for a Sr. Healthcare Data Analyst to join our dynamic team.
Things are exciting at UHG as we are experiencing unprecedented growth, and
looking for someone with a#339;the right stuffa#157; for our team at one
of our locations (Cypress CA, Rockville MD, or Frederick MD).
This Sr. Healthcare Data Analyst is part of a team that researches and
investigates business problems through quantitative analysis using
healthcare cost and utilization data. This position also conducts the on-
going presentation of analysis results and findings to support healthcare
business operations, performance and improvement. The reporting team for
this position has a focus on developing a variety of reporting tools to
support the work that is performed by the UnitedHealth Clinical Services
prior authorization teams. There are also a variety of reporting tools that
are developed to support a variety of UnitedHealth Groups' initiatives,
state and regulatory compliance measures outcomes, and periodic client
specific performance measures/outcomes.
Key job responsibilities include:
- Works with less structured data, and recognizes data patterns and
potential issues and makes recommendations
- Proactively discovers potential areas for medical cost improvement
and management/healthcare initiative strategies
- Performs data cleaning, preparation, reporting, and analysis
- Leverages existing and ad-hoc reporting capabilities to identify
trends in health plan performance and opportunities for medical expense
reduction
- Performs data extraction, aggregation, and quality checking from
multiple sources and tables in support of trend identification, root cause
analysis, affordability initiative development, and validation/measurement
of medical expense reduction initiatives
- Provides consultative advice and interprets and summarizes
analytical findings
- Researches, identifies, and implements new approaches and methods to
facilitate medical cost management

Requirements
We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in math, computer science, economics, business
administration or related area.
- Strong technical / computer skills.
- 1+ years of experience working in data analytics (healthcare claims
data analysis experience is preferred).
- Strong SAS programming and analytical skills (test will be required
of candidates during interview process).
- Experience working with relational databases and large datasets is
preferred.
- Intermediate or better proficiency with MS Excel.
- Must be a quick learner, and able to be flexible and adaptable in a
fast paced environment.
- Must be self-motivated and detail-oriented.
- Ability to work with minimal guidance.
