I am not sure this is the best place to post. I am in biotech industry and
doing downstream purification process development. My company decided not to
sponsor my H1B(dramas). My visa will expire end of this year.
My bf is in U.S. and currently holds a green card and will be able to apply
for citizenship late next year.
I am trying to decide which path to choose:
1. Going back to school for a Ph.D. in bio area. since I already got a
masters degree, I am hoping to finish the Ph.D. in 4 years for the longest.
Pros: a Ph.D. is a Ph.D., I may not see its importance now. However, I may
benefit in a long run.(? can I)
Cons: no saving in those 4 years. might be a waste of time, since I saw
people in this industry lost their jobs in their 40-50s, and it seems really
hard for them to get back in the workforce.
2. do a master's in statistics/data science. I dont see a bright future in
pharmaceutical industry. However, I just " heard" the jobs are booming in
data related area.
Pros: might be easier to get a job than pharma area.
Conds: I lost my last chance to pursue a Ph.D. coz my age. at least 30K need
to be investigated, which I saved hard for 2 years.
3. Go back to China and find a job in biopharma industry..
Pros: no gap; keep doing what I am doing now.
Cons: low pay (compared with now); I need to move and adjust to changes
again. Relationship may fail.We have been together for 3 years..
DaNius on this forum, PLEASE give some suggestions. Thank you!
