Baltimore records 212th homicide of the year, city more deadly than New York
Welcome to Bodymore, Murdaland.
Shock figures have shown Charm City has seen more murders this year than New
York.
Baltimore had recorded 212 murders as of Wednesday night, while the Big
Apple had 208 homicides.
But New York City is home to more than 8.4 million people, while Baltimore
just has 620,000 residents, reported the Baltimore Sun.
Adjusted for population, Baltimore's murder rate through Aug. 19 is 34
per 100,000 people, while New York's is just 2.5 per 100,000.
New York peaked with a record high 2,245 homicides in 1990, but that number
has dropped dramatically and 2014 saw a historic low of 328 murders.
Baltimore saw a peak of 353 killings in 1993 and recorded 211 homicides in
2014.
Chicago has seen the most killings of any city, with 284 so far this year.
With a population of 2.7 million people, Chicago's homicide rate is
about 10.4 per 100,000 people to date.
