for the first part, almost correct. of course ee people can do some me/cs job, bio people can do some chemical work. but probably ee people have no clue about bio work.
how about Physics. do you think people with physics background have any advantages in this area? 3x.

my personal guess: bs/ms in physics should be fine, but may be a bit tough in the beginning for phds. :-) personally, i feel physics peopel may have some advantages cause they may have more solid knowledge in some areas and can pick up some ee/cs/me work easily. your personal interests/knowledge/experience in these fields may be helpful, not only for job-hunting but also for ur career. actually, in UK (maybe quite some commonwealth countries) there r lots of patent people with a degree in physic

People I know are mostly from Bio, Chemistry, or ee background. Simply that is the trend for most patent applications.
