Would a letter from a supervising partner do any good to my application, if
I am currently working for a law firm?
I found this on-line, and really doubted whether it would be a good idea now.
"letters from family friends, political figures, judges, and the like
usually are discouraged and may, in fact, be detrimental."

That's nonsense. A judge can easily get you into a prestigious law school.
I believe the most powerful recommendation is from a law professor who's
teaching in the law school for which you are applying.

That's true, but people can rarely have such a LOR.

you should get the partner to write the letter. he's in the perfect position
to write the letter for you.
but anyway, recommendation letter isn't going to play a huge role - it's
more of a formality because almost anybody can get people to say nice words
about himself. you should give your PS a little more thought and try to
distinguish yourself there.

I cant agree more with what ncode said.
You should treat your application materials as a whole package to show why
you are a better candidate for the law school than the other applicant.
Like using one ROL to say something about your working ability, one ROL to
talk about your study ability, etc.
And try not to say the same thing it's already been reflected in other
materials and in that way, the admission office will see a more complete and
clearer you.

however, the package contains so few materials, especially for LLM. So I
feel the decision making of admission would be sort of random, or luck-based.
Am I right? I am a newbie in this area.
