zh_CN.UTF-8 登录的，gnome-language-selector 里也选默认为中文了。
输入汉字倒是可以显示，telnet mitbbs.com 就不行
总是忘记怎么折腾的。。。

难道是 UTF8 的不能跟 GB2312 混用 ？
但是在 gedit 里用 UTF8 输入，然后贴到 firefox 里是对的。

ft 换 zh_CN.GBK 就好用了。。。

in gnome-terminal open menu:terminal -->set character encoding --->select

It gives you more flexibility, and many gnome app have this capability to
change character encoding on the fly, such as gedit. I am surprised you have
missed this feature.

gedit only "save as" in different encoding,
cannot change on the fly...
there is a tools\set language option, which is totally different...
I don't even see Chinese listed there...
