what u talking about?
yum won't cause those problems, fedora9 isn's buggy at all from what i can
tell.
Most of its stuffs work out of box, including wireless.

Did I say yum causes these problems?
what I am saying is all the weird things happened right after a "yum update"

i never had problem with yum and after yum update.
one possible situation comes to my mind, if kernel gets yum updated, new
kernel should be used and old kernel may have problems if some packages were
erased due to update.

login/logout should fix the issue, otherwise, you may have to recompile
video driver if kernel is upgraded
