Your state tax is Fed exempted, so if you use itemized,
your state tax is deductable from the Fed tax. For most
double income family bay area, lets say close to 150K
total. based on the 8% state income tax rate, it is a
lready much more than the standard deduction.

don't think there is a strict line of income to trigger AMT.
high income, or too much deduction,
can both be the factors.
