Housing Starts Fall
New residential construction fell slightly during July as groundbreakings
declined in the South, but permits for future building increased. Housing
starts decreased 0.1% to a seasonally adjusted 2.042 million annual rate, the
Commerce Department said Tuesday. June starts, originally seen at 2.004
million, increased by 0.2% to 2.045 million from May's 2.041 million rate.
Permits for future building rose by 1.6% in July to a 2.167 million annual
