onsite完了给committee里的人写了thank you note。
一个回信说whatever happens, we should look into possibilities of
collaboration.
另一个回信说，hope paths cross again in the future.
这就是黄了吧。。。

我请求安慰。
这个房子本来在我不敢奢望的99万。后来降到80万的时候，据说有6个offer，我冲上去
offer了75万，他们居然接受了。可就在第二天，我们的合同交给卖方agent的时候，她
说又来了两个新offer，卖方让我们三家分别给一个best and final offer。有这样不
守信用的人? 我虽然气愤，可看在房子的份上，忍气吞声又加了一点。结果后来人告诉
我，有一家比我多出3万。我出局了。
按说本来我出75万的时候也没抱什么希望，我还是很本分地把自己定位在70万的小黑屋
的。可是呢，给这样调戏了一把，我现在很难再心平气和地看小黑屋了。在我看来，现
在市场上80万90万的房子也比不上我错过的这个好。
我怕是买不到房子了。

楼主想开些，这不奇怪，自己觉得good deal，别人也是，都盯着，市场价就是这么抢
出来的。要想不在加州住小黑屋，就换工作，到中西部，50万住超级豪宅，4000+平方

That's not right at all. When I finished my interview for my current job, a
person gave me exactly the same reply. The chair told me there was no
discussion/controversy about who was the top candidate at all. Why do people
read too much into
these things.

口头接受没用，在双方都在合同上签字生效前，任何一方都能改变决定。
另外，如果真是要你再多出3万买这房子，你觉得你会买么？

The chair wound't tell you there was controversy EVEN IF there actually was
a big fight. He offered you the position, making you feel bad or
suspicious
on who was against you will do no good to anyone.

Well, whatever you say. I think the chair was sincere. I asked when I
receive oral offer and I simply asked how certain the offer is, and then he
said there was not really any different opinions, so he would not anticipate
any problem. If there had been "discussions," he could simply have said "I
think it's pretty certain" Of course I was not asking a question such as "
were there discussions/different opinions?"
Anyway, if I wrote to any candidate saying "hope our career paths will
cross again," at least I wouldn't be indicating anything. And why on earth
would anyone on the committee try to insinuate anything to the applicant
when a final decision/announcement has not been made? Even if the professor
does feel negatively about the applicant, s/he would have refrained from
making any suggestions in the email. As you say, what good does that do?

我曾经也收到过第二个那种的回信，后来就拿到offer了
positive，如果人家对你没兴趣也不会给你回信的。
