LD最近拿到两个码工的offer, 一个Microsoft的BI组的在西雅图， 薪水是93，000，另
一个是湾区的ebay, 薪水是106000 ， 考虑到加州的州税， 估计钱到手都差不多。 现
在比较纠结的是这两个地方的发展哪个好一点？ 还有现在人在湾区..希望大家能给点
建议。 谢谢

我倒是离这个湾不远，心想这地方房价也不贵啊。。

同意，建议先去微软工作一段时间再看，主要从公司的角度考虑，微软各方面都要好一些，即便是钱的绝对数不考虑州税，加上bonus和RSU应该不比ebay给的这个少，楼主可以再好好算算。另外你接受offer前还可以negotiate一下，就说听说微软涨了工资什么的，应该能多要一些。
ebay虽然财务基本面不错，但是并没有象Amazon那样做一些很新的东西，基本还是老的架构炒炒冷饭，这也是他们待遇上完全没有抢人意思的原因之一。
其他各个方面，我也想不出ebay有什么特别比微软好的地方。

之后加上去的；真的不好选

一些，即便是钱的绝对数不考虑州税，加上bonus和RSU应该不比ebay给的这个少，楼主
可以再好好算算。另外你接受offer前还可以negotiate一下，就说听说微软涨了工资什
么的，应该能多要一些。

要不试试那些高的gft之类

MS is good for long term career. Overall, MS has many good processes and
disciplines that is very helpful to new grad.
Ignore this if you are experienced.

微软面了两个组， 应该都过了， 主要是美国人。 但是头头是印度人， onsite的时候
没有见到，因为是店面是头头。 不知道人怎么样？ paypal 的话是一个印度manager
加两个A3 加一个美国人和一个很nice的中国人。 感觉paypal里面印度人很多， 还有
就是国人也很多， 面试的时候听到外面有人用中文聊天。。。

In terms of Money, let's do some comparison:
Base on your base salary, I guess you only get L59 from MSFT.
Given you just hit average performance, you then get the target bonus for
both companies.
company base bonus stock bonus ESPP Total
MSFT 93k 10% 3k 1.5% 106.7k
eBay 106k 10% 0 0 116.6k
Therefore, eBay gave 10k more overall. I believe this will lead to about the
same amount after federal, social security, medicare and state tax. You did
not mention sign on bonus/stock, therefore I skipt this part.
The other thing you need to consider is health care. In MSFT, you pay
nothing for the whole family in terms of health care; no co-pay, nothing.
Although this will change in 2013.
Therefore, if money is the factor for your decision, I can definitely tell
you MSFT has better package.

eBay has ESPP, 15% off the market price. You can contribute 10% of your
salary.
eBay usually gives RSU. For this offer, probably 6K - 8K a year.
If you move to Seattle, you most likely will stay there for a while. It's
not realistic to move to the Bay area unless something big happens.People
are lazy, it's not easy to move.. If you are in the Bay Area, better stay
here. Many more chances..

市场上找一个技术能上手的比找一个政治上正确的容易得多。
末位淘汰只考虑所谓的技术那就是开玩笑了，因为这个东西没法量化。
就是每年给管理层一个机会把不喜欢，不听话的人弄出去还不能担责任怕被告。

一年了，

去BI的哪个组啊？里面核心的组前景很不错，能接触到很多底层的东西以及Azure。能
够学到不少东西，至少以后要跳槽的话简历会很好看。如果做做界面啥的就要打个折扣了

For this level, I think ebay probably offered 500 RSU over 4 years and a 6%
target bonus. Money wise, I think as LZ pointed out, ebay can only probably
cover the tax difference, not any living expense difference, which is big
for two people.

If it's the first job, career is more important. That is why I think the Bay
Area might be a better choice.
Of course, there are plenty of people staying in MS for 5, 10, 15+ years.
One of my classmates went there as fresh graduate, after 12 years, she is
still there..
As of living expense, housing is the biggest. If only renting, difference is
limited. One bed room 1200, how much you can save if you are in Seattle?
If you are buying, different story...

paypal的title本来就比别的公司高啊，这个没用的，再跳回google/MS还是一样的。微
软给的RSU至少1w一年吧。

要不试试那些高的gft之类
微软mountain view也挺不错的，

MS is good for long term career. Overall, MS has many good processes and
disciplines that is very helpful to new grad.
Ignore this if you are experienced.

微软面了两个组， 应该都过了， 主要是美国人。 但是头头是印度人， onsite的时候
没有见到，因为是店面是头头。 不知道人怎么样？ paypal 的话是一个印度manager
加两个A3 加一个美国人和一个很nice的中国人。 感觉paypal里面印度人很多， 还有
就是国人也很多， 面试的时候听到外面有人用中文聊天。。。

In terms of Money, let's do some comparison:
Base on your base salary, I guess you only get L59 from MSFT.
Given you just hit average performance, you then get the target bonus for
both companies.
company base bonus stock bonus ESPP Total
MSFT 93k 10% 3k 1.5% 106.7k
eBay 106k 10% 0 0 116.6k
Therefore, eBay gave 10k more overall. I believe this will lead to about the
same amount after federal, social security, medicare and state tax. You did
not mention sign on bonus/stock, therefore I skipt this part.
The other thing you need to consider is health care. In MSFT, you pay
nothing for the whole family in terms of health care; no co-pay, nothing.
Although this will change in 2013.
Therefore, if money is the factor for your decision, I can definitely tell
you MSFT has better package.

salary.
eBay usually gives RSU. For this offer, probably 6K - 8K a year.
If you move to Seattle, you most likely will stay there for a while. It's
not realistic to move to the Bay area unless something big happens.People
are lazy, it's not easy to move.. If you are in the Bay Area, better stay
here. Many more chances..

市场上找一个技术能上手的比找一个政治上正确的容易得多。
末位淘汰只考虑所谓的技术那就是开玩笑了，因为这个东西没法量化。
就是每年给管理层一个机会把不喜欢，不听话的人弄出去还不能担责任怕被告。

谢谢你的建议，非常中肯了， 您所说的正是我考虑的，paypal 给了500股Rsu，估计4K
一年了，

去BI的哪个组啊？里面核心的组前景很不错，能接触到很多底层的东西以及Azure。能
够学到不少东西，至少以后要跳槽的话简历会很好看。如果做做界面啥的就要打个折扣了

For this level, I think ebay probably offered 500 RSU over 4 years and a 6%
target bonus. Money wise, I think as LZ pointed out, ebay can only probably
cover the tax difference, not any living expense difference, which is big
for two people.

If it's the first job, career is more important. That is why I think the Bay
Area might be a better choice.
Of course, there are plenty of people staying in MS for 5, 10, 15+ years.
One of my classmates went there as fresh graduate, after 12 years, she is
still there..
As of living expense, housing is the biggest. If only renting, difference is
limited. One bed room 1200, how much you can save if you are in Seattle?
If you are buying, different story...
