Job Title: Process Engineer, W2E
Department/Location: Engineering – Chandler, AZ
Reports To:
Date: 3/28/12
Purpose:
This position is responsible for optimizing the operation of a waste-water
to energy digester system. The Process Engineer will work closely with the
biochemical engineer to create an efficient process for the creation of
methane from biomass. An understanding of process controls, fluid flows,
data acquisition, and electrical and mechanical systems will be required.
The Process Engineer will need to be comfortable in both conceptual design
and analysis and hands-on implementation of the design.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
• Apply engineering and hands-on problem solving skills to take new
bio-digestion technology through proof of concept
• Develop process controls including sensors, valves, and pumps to
optimize a bio-digestion process.
• Perform integration of sensors and controls hardware into a PLC
based controller
• Work with in-house resources and outside contractors to implement
design changes to the digester system
• Collaborate with engineering team to address hardware design,
supplier, cost, assembly and serviceability issues.
• Develop a system level a subsystem levels schematics of all
electrical and mechanical inputs and outputs
• Use key tools for the development process - Design Validation
Planning & Review, Failure Mode Effect Analysis, 7 Step (8D, etc.) Problem
Solving, Design of Experiments (DOE), etc.
• Assist in the scale-up and transfer of the technology from the
proof of concept stage to the full scale implementation phase of product
development.
• Design and develop novel high pressure electrolyzers for the
dissociation of methane to hydrogen
Qualifications/Requirements:
• BS/MS Mechanical, Chemical or Industrial Engineering.
• 5 years of process development in a large scale treatment or
digestion application
• Proficiency in data acquisition and process automation software
and hardware
• Familiarity with high pressure vessels and plumbing, and
experience with high pressure electrolysis is preferred.
• Understanding of PLC programming and ladder logic
• Proficiency in SPC, PFMEA, Solidworks, Pro E, Unigraphics, or
other related CAD
• Experience with process simulators such as AspenPlus.
• Background knowledge of Waste Water Treatment of Digestion is
preferred
