has anyone had experience on building a badminton court in the backyard? the
current ground is dirt coverd with wild weed, it is about 10 degree grade.
I am thinking of hiring someone to dig down 9 inches and put in gravel and
sand, then 4 in concrete top to make it leveled. The total area of this
project is about 20'x 45'.
If you have ever done this before, please kindly share your exp. including
difficulties and gross expense. Will appreciate!

Better build a tennis court, and use it for badminton :)
One thing people tend to ignore, but very important for badminton is
windbreaker. Obviously, the shuttlecock is more vulnerable to wind than any
balls. So, plant enough hedge rows to break the wind :)

羽毛球对地面要求也比较高,水泥地打一会儿就脚疼.地板+塑胶比较理想.
但是这种地面也不适合在室外安装.

没戏,羽毛球标准场地要求clearance 10米
平时随便打打也可以挑个6,7米高,这得多高的挡风墙

tennis court size is about 36'x78' plus some extra running area, too much to
fit into my yard. The 20'x45' is the right size that my yard can hold.
my yard is surrounded by tall trees and building, so the wind is not big
problem unless it is too strong
also think of adding a basket racket on one side so that it will be a
multifunction sports court
hardness of the ground is truly a concern, but I also check online that some
one mentioned adding some asphalt topping will mitigate.
Right now only the cost is still in the dark

We've played on the current yard before... unless there is very strong wind
in the outside, I don't feel anything at all. To be more clear, my backyard
was surrounded by tall trees and building, the terrian was a little sloppy
down. If you ever live in the New York upstate area where there are a lot of
trees, you will understand.

yes, 10 degree or so, some spots are better and some are worse as the whole
surface is not level . We already have a retaining wall in the low side
built 2 years ago and filled with some dirt to match up with it but as the
rain kept washing the ground and soaking and sinking/weathering, the ground
has sunk to the current slope, that is why I am thinking of adding more dirt
and compact to put a strong base (maybe with concrete, which is a little
controversial as this installation will be permanent)

surface is not level . We already have a retaining wall in the low side

rain kept washing the ground and soaking and sinking/weathering, the ground
has sunk to the current slope, that is why I am thinking of adding more dirt

20'x45'太小了吧，我家pool20'x40'，刚刚目测了一下，那么小一打就过界啊。另外，
楼主说旁边都是树或房子，会不会时不时就把球打到树上或房顶上去了啊？要我说，别
折腾了，那么多钱去gym可以打好多年了。

what you said is exactly the same as what my wife comment :)
actually this is just to think about how to make the backyard more
attractive and efficiently used. A badminton/multi-funciton play court is to
my consideration a good option, I am doing study now but,seems like it's
not economic/function rated to the ultimate purpose of future sell-out.
Anyway, not that many ppl here like badminton as a household activity, an
easy one is just leveling a corner and erect a basketball rack, and design
some backyard garden and lawn to keep the soil.

actually this is just to think about how to make the backyard more
attractive and efficiently used. A badminton/multi-funciton play court is to
my consideration a good option, I am doing study now but,seems like it's
