Yesterday morning when I drop my daughter off at daycare, she was fuzzy, and
not wanting to get off of me. she hid her head under my chin and closed her
eyes, a little bit sadness and crying. Finally before her teacher gets her,
she opened her eyes and hold my head to kiss my lips. Her teacher turned
her head to the side, I am not sure if she feels unease or if he turned just
let us have this intimate act. I know in america, PDA (public display of
affection) isn't very appropriate.
It makes me think of this kissing kids on the lips thing. Is it alright?
When I grew up, I had no such experience as a kid. Is kissing on the lips
only reserved for marriage, or for affectionate family members as well? what
's wrong with parents kissing on their children's lips? will that make them
feel kissing on the lips is a normal thing, and when they grow up, they may
let other people kiss them easily, taking advantage of them?
So I googled.
1. I found a scary picture about decayed baby teeth. of course from the
hygiene stand point, it isn't good to kiss on the lips.
2. most mom said it is ok to kiss your baby. But there are different
opinions about what to do when they grow up. father kissing grown-up
daughter? mommy kissing grown-up son? is it ok? Is it ok that mommy kissing
grown-up daughter, father kissing grown-up son? Maybe I should check out
some movies. :)
3. about when and where to kiss on the lips. I think kissing on the cheeks
or forehead in public is fine, but not sure about kissing on the lips in
public.
4. My personal experience: I never kissed my older daughter on lips before
our second daughter was born. Although I do it now to both of my girls
sometime, I still feel a little uncomfortable to kiss them on the lips.
but we've seen movies that lovers could do that. should children's lips be
only reserved for their lovers when they grow up?
5. I want to ask mommies in this forum: what are your ways to show
affectionate feelings to your babies? I grew up in my grandma's house, and
had a very distant relationship with my parents. In addition to that, my mom
is a very conservative woman, in my memory, my mom never hugged me, or
kissed me, or show much affection towards me. my friend used to ask me, why
you don't call your daughter any nickname? why you don't hugged her or kiss
her? It was then that I realized i need to show more affection.
Thanks for looking at this post.
