9/17 fever around 100. No action taken
9/18 fever around 102 highest. No action taken
9/19 fever around 102. Motrin 5ml was given to control the fever
9/20 fever around 102 during the day. Took him to see pediatric . No ear/
throat infections. Lungs sound fine. Motrin was given to control fever.
9/21 at 1am, temp 105 and body was shaking. Tylenol was given. After 1hr,
temp went down to 101. Took him to see pediatric again in the morning, no
infection and lungs sound fine. Prescribed Cefdinir for emergency. We
boarded a 7 day cruise. Gave him Motrin through out the day every 6 hours.
Also noticed he was sweating a lot during sleep/nap
9/22 temp was 105 early morning. Did not give him any meds. He was able to
cool it down to 98.6 after few hours. But fever came back in the afternoon.
Took him to see doctor on board. No ear/throat infection, lungs sound fine.
The doctor onboard suspected there is upper respiratory tract infection.
Started taking cefdinir prescribed from pediatric. Sweating a lot but body
was not shaking during the sleep. Even after the antibiotic was given, the
fever keeps coming back. Motrin was used
9/23 fever came back early morning, Tylenol was used.
Throughout the whole time, he's active and did not complain any pain. But we
are extremely worried as we are on a cruise now and medical capability is
limited. Questions:
1. What should be the next step to find out why he has persistent fever?
2. How long does it usually take for antibiotics to stop infection or fever?
He has been given cefdinir only once (9/22).
3. Anything else we can do given the limited capability onboard. We will
arrive on a port 9/24.
Any help is appreciated. Already posted on medical. Thanks
