As far as I know, if you wire the money from Bank of America, you don't
have to provide the ABA routing number. The recipient's account number
and the name of the branch of BOA will do the job. Even if the recipient
does't have a foreign currency account at BOC(which is very common), you
can still wire the money to the branch, but you have to make sure you
spell the recipent's name correctly. For details, you can ask the recipient
to go to the local BOC for the wiring instructions. Normally, for

When I wired the money (from a local credit union), they told me they
need a wiring number(maybe it's also the ABA number). So I got the number
from BOC, NY Branch.
I also provided them the information of the receiver(name, address, phone num,
personal account number) and the local bank name(BOC, xx Branch, xx Subbranch).
There is a wiring form to be filled with the above information.
I think this local credit union wires money to China through BOC, NY Branch.

Yes, I did a wire transfer through BOA before. Actually, I was trying to
get a routing number( I heard that foreign banks have similar routing numbers
as Amreican banks' ABA numebrs), but the recipient BOC branch gave me
one which seemed to be the account number. They assured me that as long as
I gave BOA the correct address, bank name, and recipient's name and phone #,
the money would be wired to the recipient. So I risked that $30 wiring fee
without filling the ABA number in the wire form. I
