theoritically, when they visit ER or hospital, they
need to fill on a form including financial responble
party, which should be their son/daughter, and the
son/daughter may need to sign the form.
however, they may not enforce it or they may not
really go after you at all. my mother went to ER
couple of times and had other exams, they never asked
me for the bill even I did sign it.
