I think Page is full of bull in this interview. He just couldn't help
letting his disrespect for Jobs show. What he was saying, effectively, is
that he didn't need any advice from Jobs. Jobs requested the meeting, while
he didn't give it a damn. Jobs had lots of "interesting" insights about how
to run a company, and every English speaker knows "interesting" means "
nonsense" in corporate speak.
Bad mouthing the late Jobs personally not enough, he went on to say Android
is every bit as original and as great as iOS, so Jobs was making hay faking
the differences and the fury. Jobs just needed to create an enemy to rally
the troops, while the benign masters in Google were working hard trying to
make the world a better place.
He also says there has been nothing that Google did wrong in the past. Only
time there was "difficulty" is because AOL is crap and too hard to work with.
Some other gems from Page:
1) Apple is no longer innovative and is about to die, because it's actively
pursuing those who infringe upon its intellectual property. We at Google don
't care much about IP; we are so kind we create and distribute it to the
world for free. (Really? Then why the phuk don't you make your search
algorithms open source?)
2) Users on the internet have too much privacy. The internet is too much "
guarded". Why don't you, Facebook, open up all your users' database, and let
us look inside. We'll be able to do a better job figuring out what ads to
push to the users. Why don't you, users, open up yourself and let us look
into your personal life. We are going to make your life better if you do.
Why don't you understand that in the grand scheme of things, a lot of
privacy is counter productive for yourself?
I knew Eric Schmidt is a jerk before; now I suspect Google's evilness has
deeper roots. Anybody who thought Jobs is a control freak, think Google.
Google is about controlling every aspect of your life, not just the
ecosystem of your phone. At the same time, they will make you believe they
are only do-gooders who move the world, and you, toward a better future.
