A gunman with a high-powered rifle was shot and secured by law enforcement
personnel at around 9:30 a.m., Los Angeles TV station KCAL reported.
"I was at the Virgin terminal at LAX when gunfire broke out," Fox Sports
columnist Bill Reiter tweeted. "Many of us have run on the tarmac. I don't
know what's happening but I'm fine."
"The first thing I did hiding under that bench thinking I was going to die
was calmly (call my) wife to tell her I loved her and our kids. What a day,"
Reiter tweeted.
The Los Angeles Police Department said it was on tactical alert "due to a
major incident."
Terminal 3 was evacuated and roads in and out of the airport were closed.
Passenger Robert Perez told KCAL that TSA agents came through the terminal
and yelled that a man had a gun.
