JOB DESCRIPTION:
Defining, designing, developing, unit testing and debugging
embedded systems for smart meters and smart grid connected devices
Scoping and sizing of new features, evaluating and validating
design alternatives to
create optimum products/systems to maximize function/cost.
Writing detailed specifications, unit test plans and conducting
design and code reviews
Use in-circuit emulators, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and
other test equipment
Interfacing Engineers on other cross function teams including
hardware, system test, manufacturing test, data concentrator and host
software
Maintenance of existing baseline of meter firmware for service
packs and bug fixes.
Adhering to NES documentation and development methodologies and
tools for specification, source code control, problem reporting, unit
testing, and team communication
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
• BS or equivalent degree in EE/Computer Science, or equivalent
experience
• Up to 3 years of embedded C programming experience
• Experience or good knowledge of developing firmware for low level
hardware peripherals in an embedded system (eg. memory, digital I/Os,
interrupt handler, device drivers, real-time clock)
• Working knowledge of embedded product life cycle,
• Familiar with Object-orientated design concepts, revision control
and bug tracking systems
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience and/or good understanding of metering technology (AMI/
AMR, ANSI and IEC protocols) and metrology (ISO standards, calibration,
homologation).
• Communication protocol development and/or debug experience
• Experience and/or good understanding of security, encryption
• Embedded microprocessor/controller and PCB-level hardware product
development and troubleshooting
