From Trackitt:
AP-In a surprise announcement today, Senators Schumer (D-NY), Grassley (R-IA
) and Brown (R-MA) announced this morning that they had come to an agreement
on a number of immigration related bills now pending before the Senate.
The Senators announced that a new bill, S.2305, would be introduced
immediately upon the return of the Senate to session, and that they expected
the bill to be approved by unanimous consent shortly thereafter. The bill
combines the pending bills for Irish E-3, Israeli E-2 and adds a new Indian
E-3 provision. The Indian E-3 is meant as a replacement for a bill that Sen.
Grassley has had on hold since late last year, HR.3012.
The Senators hailed their agreement as a bipartisan compromise bill. Several
immigration groups also hailed the measure. Irish lobbiests, who had been
hoping for the Irish E-3 provision before St. Patrick's day were pleased
that it was going to finally get moving. Aman Kapoor of the Indian dominated
group, ImmigrationVoice hailed the compromise as a tremendous step toward
helping people trapped in immigration backlogs.
Happy April.1
