This sweet 8 year old female Maltese/Poodle mix is now up for adoption.
Background: The morning after finding her we brought her to a local vet and
they found a MicroChip in her that was placed by the SPCA. When we called
the number registered to the dog, the phone had been unreachable. I then
drove to the address they provided and the person had either moved, or did
not want to be found. I also found a person with the same name on Facebook
and after messaging her, never received anything in return. Therefore after
talking with the SPCA, they explained that after 5 days of trying to contact
previous owners, the dog is then able to be adopted. Of course I would love
to find the real owner, but with all the circumstances, I feel this was an
intended abandonment.
The dog: This female is very sweet, and has definitely opened up and showing
her silly side. She is spunky and loves nothing more than to be petted and
loved on. When we found her, all of her hair was matted (we cut all the
worst of it out) but the veterinarians said she will definitely need a full
grooming and possibly a full shave. They also said they think she is about 8
years old, but with how well she gets around and how spunky she is, she
probably has a long life ahead of her. She weighs about 19lbs so she would
be accepted by almost all apartments that allow dogs. She also doesn't need
a whole lot, as she simply sticks to your side. She enjoys the backyard, but
I can see her being perfectly content with a few leash-walks a day. As far
as I can tell, her previous owners did not allow her on furniture because
she has never jumped on either my couches or my bed (which are all very low
and accessible.) I have 3 other medium/large dogs and she gets along well
with all of them. She can even stick up for herself when the puppy tries to
play too rough. She doesn't really play with the other dogs, but certainly
doesn't mind them at all. Seems like she belonged to a single person, maybe
a family. I haven't had her around children but with her sweet and happy
nature, I'm sure she would love kids. The only downside I noticed was that
she pulls on her leash on walks and attempted to chase a cat while on the
leash. Not sure if she was going after it aggressively or to play cus she
was wagging her tail.
