abc(girl name).mov people will think that is a video clip taken by abc.
if abc(girl name).avi most of the time, that is another story...

both are just containers, and both can use the same codec.
so, it all hinges on the codec your footage is using.

既然只是container，这样从AVI改过来有什么意义吗？
是不是必须装苹果那个quicktime才能看?
如果只是codec，那用MS的meadia player（包括classic）就行了？
支持的编辑软件呢？是不是也比AVI少些？

My understanding is that apple's MOV offers much more standardized
selections of codecs than AVI does. Individuals may use some obsolete codecs
and package the whole thing as an AVI, which gives editing programs a lot
of trouble.
You don't have to have Quicktime to play MOV files. Some third-party
programs like VLCplayer can do it too because it comes with all the codecs
necessary to play MOVs.
Most pro-level editing programs (FCP, Premiere) has nice compatibility with
MOVs. Using AVIs is always
