己的父亲借钱办公司，小到帮下人藏起摔碎的茶杯，以免婆婆发牢骚。
然而，这样好的太太，人也漂亮，丈夫仍然出轨了。并且，还带着去为女儿找公道
的岳父一起出轨，欺骗她、抛弃她，甚至把原本要送她的胸针和半导体都送给了外
面的女人，而她没有像很多女性一样大吵大闹，而是一面维护着丈夫的颜面，一面
还要继续忙活家中的里里外外，甚至最后还要帮丈夫去处理外面姨太太的事情，虽
然每件事情她都非常机智和妥当地解决了，但是，看完影片之后，还是会为这样一
个优秀的女人感到惋惜。虽然最后电影还是给了一个相对意义上“浪子回头”的ha
ppy ending，但是，那个时代女性的悲哀，或者说，中国女性的悲哀，却在影片中
得到了很好的影射。
《太太万岁》非常明显地反映出好莱坞电影对民国时期中国电影的深远影响。在题
材上，《太太万岁》并没有走《渔光曲》或者《马路天使》这样，针对贫下阶级、
老百姓的，相对具有中国特色的题材，而是用了中产阶级和小资产阶级的故事，而
好莱坞同时代的电影，则大多也局限在美国特定的，庞大的中产阶级民众上，比如
《春闺风月》、《浮生若梦》等等。
在电影的拍摄手法上，好莱坞的那种矛盾式叙述方法，将主要矛盾集中在太太和先
生的感情发展上，或者是close-up和extreme close-up的运用，还有非常流畅的电
影节奏，比如很著名的好莱坞式double take，并非一次到达，而是通过两到三次递
进式的进行——当下人摔碎茶杯的时候，老太太先下来问，被瞒过去，太太将碎杯
子用报纸挡上，老太太又要看报纸，太太将碎杯子藏在沙发垫后，老太太要拿沙发
垫，最后发现了碎杯子，这个“发现碎杯子”的过程非常精彩而且流畅，很好地体
现了民国时期中国电影技术上的成熟和优秀。
同时，在配乐上，其实大部分管弦乐的运用都非常类似美国默片时期的电影配乐，
这点反映出了中国电影虽然当时在学习西方先进的电影技术和手法，但是仍然存在
断档，同时也可能是，好莱坞有声电影产生以后的配乐，并不适合中国电影。
同时《太太万岁》也反映出了民国时期中国的很多社会现实，和社会现象。比如飞
机的流行、半导体这种科技的普及、物价飞涨、新式爱情和旧社会价值观的冲击、

A Legacy of Love

San Francisco motel room. When I heard of Al's death, I reacted with the
same disdain the world shows for one who ends his life with nothing material
to show for it. "What a complete failure!" I thought. "What a totally
wasted life!"
As time went by, I began to re-evaluate my earlier harsh judgment. You see,
I knew Al's now adult son, Ernie. He is one of the kindest, most caring,
most loving men I have ever known. I watched Ernie with his children and saw
the free flow of love between them. I knew that kindness and caring had to
come from somewhere.
I hadn't heard Ernie talk much about his father. It is so hard to defend an
alcoholic. One day I worked up my courage to ask him. "I'm really puzzled by
something," I said. "I know your father was basically the only one to raise
you. What on earth did he do that you became such a special person?"
Ernie sat quietly and reflected for a few moments. Then he said, "From my
earliest memories as a child until I left home at 18, Al came into my room
every night, gave me a kiss and said, `I love you, son."
Tears came to my eyes as I realized what a fool I had been to judge Al as a
failure. He had not left any material possessions behind. But he had been a
kind loving father, and he left behind one of the finest, most giving men I
have ever known.
