看书看懂就行了,看得慢绝对不是好事情

well, u have to find a book that's worth reading slowly
if you are just reading for fun, then why do you care about
speed? you are not in a race
if you are reading technical books, that's another issue

对我来说有两个极端:
一种书嫌读得太快;
一种书永远读不完。

To read as much as you can and dig out a few books you dearly love is the best
way. Time and interest rules!
process: slow -> fast-> slow -> fast or slow, speed totally under your control
With my favorite books I'd read them several times with various speed to
devour the relish; I even try different editions! Fortunately save the time,
for less than 5 authors I'll honor them with such repeating, long-term, quick
or painfully slow reading.;-P

harry potter, lord of the rings, the hours, shipping news..
These recently had motion pictures coming out. both novels and movies were
quite popular. you might take an interest. there are too many to recommend
tho.
(Side note: how come nicole kidman got golden globe??!! I thought her acting
was the 2nd worst in the movie, next to the actor who played Richard the poet.
Her Mrs. Woolf frowned all the time and pursed the lips, kept that same
childish grumpy expression from beginning to the end.

acting
poet.
Hoho, here's a paragraph from the review on TIME by Richard Shickel:
'Watching The Hours, one finds oneself focusing excessively on the unfortunate
prosthetic nose Kidman affects in order to lool more like the novelist. And
wondering why the screenwriter, David Hare, and the director, Stephen Daldry,
turn Woolf, a woman of incisive mind, into a hapless ditherer. Gentlemen, she
was only a part-time madwoman. Most of the time, she possessed one of the most
interesting sensibilities o

hmm i used to think magazines usually gave evasive flattering comments on
movies and books. i love mean reviews! "singled out and overemphasized
female victimization/seeking refuge in homo relationship..somehow too
simple-minded" sth like this was mentioned in this review about the hours?
that's shrewd! this R.S. had a sharper tongue than the other reviewer, R.C.
and he had a wicked humour which i enjoyed most.
personally i was tired of shrilly feminisitic or homo factors in arthouse
movies.
