Peter Hessler wrote "River Town : Two Years on the Yangtze", it is based on
his two-year experience teaching English in this little town called Fuling,
Sichuan from 1996 - 1998. He is an accomplished writer, clean is his style and
very honest in his writings. I highly recommand the book.
Another book I am reading now is "the Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett.
The book is very long, around 1000 pages, packed with words with tiny margins.
At first when I looked at it, I said to myself does this

This guy concentrated on writing Chinese. Read a lot of his magazine articles.
He wrote Chinese topics for "National Geographic", and "New Yorker".

Ken Follett is not much a literary character. He mostly write thrillers. I
remember his "The Key to Rebecca" and something about Afghanistan, titled
Lions of ... (forget, :-(
