China has so many fresh graduates from college with BSc, MSc, PhD degrees at
home, they are young, often the leaders in China discounted and ignored
returnees from USA or other countries. They dont care about your education
or experiences obtained outside China, and they're so proud of their own
talent resources which include the grand projects of JiuQuan their space
center and moon program, their high speed train program etc. Well if you're
still young in your 20's freshly graduated from a US school then I guess you
can try your career back in China. If you're in your 40's or 50's don't
even dream of being a returnee, China is not your place at all. IT sector
for example, most of the real decision makers and mid managers are probably
in their 30's in China with almost no experiences abroad ( maybe at most
occasional meetings or trainings in the US ) so they really have a hard
absorbing or appreciating an experienced returnee candidate. Personally I
had very very bad lucks making such return efforts in 2008 and 2009 and
found the efforts were nearly fruitless and painful. CCTV or some other
media often report disgruntled returnees and portrayed them as people with
failures abroad, they simply dont welcome or appreciate any honest return
and contribute enthusiam of any return pool. China is so populated and
crowded it doesn't care whether you return or not. They even think returnees
are competitors to thier own jobs or resources. They think it very
negatively. I can hardly find any true agencies or websites sponsored by
Chinese government to encourage such returns, to my utter surprise. Remember
a land with millions of young graduates waiting for jobs. And the government
there dont emphasize enough of IT or software. So if you major or work in
software or IT then be absolutely careful and think a million times before
making your step back to that land.
Make your best contact with professors or professionals or friends you while
in USA and try to stay or work in USA and avoid the return to China. Return
only if you find a golden opportunity there with connections or contacts
there ( no doubt some people always have better connections than others).
Good luck! c*****[email protected]
