作者Ted Chiang历来很酷。上回看到一则轶事，
说是今年雨果奖原来要提名他新出的一个小说集里的一篇小说，
结果被他谢绝了，因为他认为这篇小说并不能代表自己的水平。

我觉得一般啊. 刚刚看完.
就觉得这段挺有意思.
Similarly, knowledge of the future was incompatible with free will. What
made it possible for me to exercise freedom of choice also made it impossible
for me to know the future. Conversely, now that I know the future, I would nev
er act contrary to that future, including telling others what I know: those wh
o know the future don't talk about it. Those who've read the Book of Ages neve
r admit to it.

The way he pieces together the heroine's memory is interesting. It is not the
normal way flashbacks are organized in novels, but it reflects the theme of
the story.
Personally I identify with the aliens. My thoughts often occur as a single
object. It's painful to translate it into a cause-and-effect narrative, and
it always feels like something is lost in the translation.

他老兄去年明明就有参加 ConJose 还被我堵到两次，
自己得了 Hugo 和日本的星云翻译短篇硬是不出面领奖，
都是编辑代领。
不过大家也不必动辄拿 Ted Chiang 的作品拿来和华文
作家比人后叫人家收手。个人观点： Ted Chiang 是「
近十年」科奇幻作家中的短篇第一高手，这个席次和
James Patrick Kelly 分享。
选All Time的话......还是请他多写一点吧....^^;;

啊，让俺们的王大侠刘大侠洗洗睡确实是我不对，人家有表达
的自由嘛。不过为啥咱们中国的第一高手比人家M国的第一高手
就差了这么多呢？
这事儿跟我无关，反正我也不写科幻，但是那群创作者们，也该
努力研究研究吧？

当然了，中国的作家写不出这么流利的英文。

王先生和刘先生的作品我已经不大看了。架子搭得太大，每每摆出一副
悯天悲人的样子，但思想却贫乏得很。王一味地去钻牛角尖而不自知，
还要对他根本不懂的科学指手画脚。刘的东西更糟糕，有时竟然会为了
几个自己觉得很美的场景去硬凑一个故事。二人的思想都很压抑，看得
出来能接触到的外界不多。
