《闭上眼睛，世界上就没有悬崖》
一、
我决定去抢劫银行，就在今天。
邪恶的想法总是让人兴奋，这可是一个一本万利的买卖。
作案之前似乎需要踩点，所以，我找了一家离我租住的房子最近的银行，抬头一看，
上面写着工商银行XXX分行。恩，算你倒霉，谁叫你平日里的服务态度最差呢？
我站定在银行门口，仔细研究这儿的地形。确定了动手的方位和路线，以及撤离的地
方。
然后，我走进了银行，在排队机上领取了一张号838。恩，838，有两个8也，看来这
次准能发财。
我在银行还算舒适的凳子上坐了下来，环顾四周，银行很大，有六个柜台，其中有五
个柜台在营业。五个柜台中有四个柜台是小姐，其中有两个长得还颇有些姿色，我想下午
动手的时候是不是顺便猥亵一下？不过我很快压下了这个诱人的想法。还是挣钱吧，女人
嘛，只要有钱，有的是。然后，我看到了两个保安，腰间揣着电棍。在大厅里走来走去的
，表情木然。看来，下午动手的时候得下点儿狠心了。
似乎没有多少琢磨的必要了，因为我有足够的能力在这个世界上为所欲为。我离开了
银行。
二、
下午两点整，我戴着墨镜、骑着摩托

Many "Virtual Reality" films recent years.
Actually, it's Matrix that ends this fashion, since now
everyone knows the cliche...
Dark City, 13th Floor, eXistenZ, and of course, Matrix.
But this novel's setup is almost EXACTLY same as 13th Floor.

IIRC, Vernor Vinge's "True Name", published 1981, is the father of them
all. I think it is still the best.
I highly recommend all works of Vinge; he is consistently good. His
language may be a little bit dry, but he is very rich in imagination
and his extrapolations are convincing.

谢谢推荐,有时间找来看看.
我知道的影响最大的虚拟现实的科幻是 Neuromancer (中文不知怎么翻?), William
Gibbson.
应该也是80年代早期的吧.
对后来的科幻影响深远, 象Terminator, Matrix什么的都有对他的引用.
书确实写的好, 文笔沉郁, 比三色火星高了不知多少.
这个和 Ender's Game 是近二十年的科幻小说里我个人最喜欢的.

Neuromancer is definitely good, but perhaps in a different way.
(And I have some reservation about its being "the most influential". :)
When I said Truename is the best, I fully realized everyone has their
own notions of "good"; I probably should have supplemented my
recommendation with more qualification. I think Vinge's works might
appeal to those who appreciate the "science" part of sci-fi more.
Vinge combines vivid originality with rigorous reasoning and acute
judgement, so the worlds he c

hehe, agreed.
he was a cs professor at sdsu. already retired though.
in fact traditionally most computer hackers love sf or fantasy.
e.g., the term "worm" came from the sand worm in "dune."

Thanks for the recomendations. Some reviews said the quality of his work is
uneven. But still, it seems worth reading.

BTW, I made a mistake; the true name of the novel is "True Names",
not "True Name" or "Truename" as I mentioned earlier. Sorry.

I did a little googling and find this article:

It mentions Vinge was a "math professor who teaches computer science";
so we are both right. Hehe. He has indeed retired; I stand corrected.

hmm. ok. i remembered i had read somewhere that vinge's
"a fire upon the deep" was originally inspired by a
distributed computing seminar he attended many years ago.
and i know he used to be a professor. that's why i had
the impression that he was a cs professor. anyway, vinge
seldom produced novel-length sf work, a disappointment
for fans like me...:(

fulltime to scifi. Haha.

那就不用自己做开发了,用一台机创造几个程序员,给他们编程接口去控制另一台机的虚拟世界.
