When the HD going mad, check " ps -aux | grep find "
I hate this. The linux doing file security check lika suid files.
I would like to shut it down and secure my system myself.

if it happens periodically, that means there is a cron job running.
the defaut is slocate will build up your sys database every day around 4:02am
in this case, it is normal and a good thing.
when you use linux, why do you mount your CDROM all the time? that is
a very bad habbit.
