the 4 schools mentioned, except GMU, are not good. They cannot publish
papers in top conferences (Purdue's DDoS research may be an exception).
GMU has two powerful indians Jajodia and Sandhu, but they are normally
bullshitting on high-level political issues that can get money from
illiterated Washington D.C. bureaucrats, not solid scientific pieces
that can benefit the research.
MIT, Berkeley, CMU, Rice are much better.

开玩笑，security比George Mason强的学校一大堆乐。什么时候GMU也冒出来
乐？

Do you know which conference is No.1 and which journal is No.1 in ACM SIGSAC?
And who are the general chairs or editors in chief?
Google it and find the answer please.
Though I don't think they are doing solid research, they are strong
in politics, and security is a political issue in this country.
Schools in D.C. have such advantages.

I agree with you. Those two are more like politions, rather than scientists.
Also, Ravi Sandhu is an expert in access control, which is a boring topic.
Standford and MIT are the best schooles. UCSD, CMU, JHU also have larger
groups in security. But, I guess most applicants from China misunderstood the
meaning of security. In their mind, security is an abbreviation for firewall,
hackers, D/DoS, IDS... For them, perhaps, Purdue, UCSB are more suitable for
them.

as far as i know, sandu proposed the role-based access control model. i am
wondering how it is applied in real systems. what kind of access control
mechanism is usually used in real systems?
